What Do You See? The Battle Will Be Overcome

Some days I find myself lost in deep thought. On days like these, my thoughts swallow me as if they were a deep dark cave that was just waiting for me to fall into. As I try to claw my way out of the cave, I fall deeper and deeper. I can feel the darkness creeping over me. My distortions growing stronger in my mind. As I fall, I try to grab onto what I can to stop myself but it's too late, I've already begun to fight against the good things in front of me. I lose the light that guides my way.

We All Struggle

The hardest part about being stuck in the cave is the battle you face just to tell yourself your thoughts are only powerful when you give power to them. The cave gives power to loneliness. When you're lonely, you tell yourself why you're not good enough. You tell yourself why it's alright for things from your past to get in the way of your bright future. You tell yourself to put up walls and push people away. Why you don't deserve to be happy and seek change. Instead of getting yourself out of the dark, you let the dark take over.

Pretty soon, you realize you aren't paying attention to the good things that are around you, and therefore, you become more lost. We all have had these struggles. Trust me, I have battled with these thoughts so many times. These days where we feel the weight of the world so deeply on our hearts and minds, challenge us. These days try to ruin the light that is before us. So, it's important to know that in these moments YOU ARE NEVER ALONE even when it feels like it. When you're in that dark cave, the enemy loves it. He thrives off of the darkness. Because in darkness, the light doesn't seem like it can shine. That is what makes depression, anxiety, and negative thoughts so difficult to overcome. The enemy grows strong when your thoughts give him the power to take over what you deserve. How can you see a small light when you can't even make the thoughts go away? What we must begin to realize is that those are all lies. One of my favorite verses is "Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. -John 1:5".

What Do You See?

"We too must shatter mirrors. We must look into ourselves and root our the distortions until those things which we know in our hears is perfect and true, stands before us." -The Art Of Racing In The Rain

With this thought, you are already prepared for the battle whether you realize it or not. You have the armor. You just have to cover yourself. So, it's time to begin to recognize what you are paying attention too when you're in that dark cold lonely cave. When you look in the mirror and you feel like you can't make it through the day, what do you think? When you believe everyone else has nothing going wrong in their lives. When you think you'll never find a tribe. When you feel like your past has overcome your future, know it's a lie. After you recognize what you're thinking, notice what you see. What do you see in yourself? Do you see someone who believes they will never be an overcomer? Do you see someone who lets their past get in the way of the beautiful opportunities right in front of them? Do you see someone who pushes great people away because you are scared to get hurt again? Do you see someone who sabotages the small important things because you are in search of ego-driven materialistic things? Spoiler Alert: materialistic things will pull you out of the dark for a little and as soon as you are unsatisfied with what you found, you'll find yourself falling deeper than the first time, every time.

When I talk to people who are choosing to be open and fight their battles, I see someone who has the strength to battle the enemies lies. I see someone who has weak moments but like a phoenix, always rises above the ashes. I see someone who isn't scared to be vulnerable because vulnerable means you are seeking help. Sometimes the battle isn't won alone. Sometimes you have to swallow your pride, open your heart, and tell someone you are struggling.

It Gets Better

Through all the time you allow yourself to spend in the dark cave, you better believe that light is going to find its way back to you. You have to start believing that you deserve better. You have to know that sometimes things don't work out because of God's protection. See, we can't always see the light when we are in the darkness but it's like the moon and the sun. Eventually, the sun rises through the night. What was once dark and dim now has rays of life to it. The darkness wants you to give up. But once you know that the opportunity for light is gifted to you every day, you start to see things differently.

The Battle is Won

When you begin fighting those negative adversities in your life, you become stronger day by day. Others may not give you the chance to show them your light. They may leave you in the dark. It may take time. You may be fighting those lies for a while. Remember this, as time passes and darkness fades, when you are shining bright, know that you have become the overcomer.

You will make it through. You have inner strength. YOU ARE NEVER ALONE.

-Lovingly,

Lucca
